Character Types
At character creation, you are allowed to pick a Character Type. The character types are arranged according to your area of overall skill, and your overall capability within a certain area. Your character type will not change, regardless of how many techniques or experience points you accumulate (barring special, staff approved circumstances), and are meant to represent the general level of profficiency that your character demonstrates. This also determines your abilities in comparison to others. The different Character Types are BALANCED, CUSTOM, and MAIN.
To better understand character types, you must first understand the areas of development/skill within which all characters practice.
- MELEE
- Your ability to use a weapon/weapons in combat.
- HAND-TO-HAND
- Your unarmed combat ability and overall physical strength.
- SPEED
- Your speed and agility in combat, how fast you move and how effectively you can dodge/perform techniques.
- SPIRIT
- Your spiritual power, pressure, and capability with specialized techniques.
In each of these areas, your Character Type will dictate your level of general Competency. Competency can be determined by the following.
- NOVICE
- This indicates little to no skill in a particular area.
- PRACTITIONER
- This indicates a moderate to average amount of skill in a particular area.
- EXPERT
- This indicates above average/great skill in a particular area.
- MASTER
- This indicates mastery and an innate understanding/capability in a particular area.
With an understanding of the above concepts, you are able to fully understand and choose your Character Type.
Type One: BALANCED
MELEE: Practicioner
HAND-TO-HAND: Practioner
SPEED: Practicioner
SPIRIT: Practioner
The most common type. This represents a character with an average level of competency in all areas. Though considered the weakest characters by some, only BALANCED Character Types are able to increase their character competencies through Staff Moderated events.
Type Two: CUSTOM
The second most common type. This represents a character who specializes in certain areas, displaying above average or even mastery of a specific skill, but has severe weaknesses in others. The rules for a Custom Characters are as follows:
- May have any number of "Practitioner" level competencies as one wishes.
- For every (Novice) you select, you may select either one (1) (Master) or two (2) (Expert).
Character Type does NOT place a restriction on the general abilities you can learn, nor does it prevent you from mastering most techniques with additional training. However, it does dictate who has the advantage in a particular battle. Two characters of the same power tier can have the exact same skill in Kido, but one who is a Master of Spiritual Power will have the edge over one who is only an Expert, even if they use the same Kido trained to the same level.
Certain techniques require you to be at least an Expert or even a Master in order to learn them. These techniques will detail this in their description, but are usually reserved for only the most difficult/powerful abilities.
For Example: In order to develop custom Shunpo Variants, one must be a Speed - Master.
Type Three: MAIN
The only exception to these rules is characters who have the Main Character character type, those considered to have story lines which are a part of the special SCS Canon. These characters are a breed apart from the rest, and have special guidelines for their creation. There are a limit of 10 Main Character slots available at any given time (The Only Exception being Togabito ("Sinners) who are considered Main Characters regardless on the limitations placed on Main Character creation), and they require constant activity (at least 2 new RP threads per month) in order to maintain.
In order to make a Main Character Type, user must:
- Have Admin Permission.
- Have at least 12 Paragraphs in Character Personality, Appearance, and History Sections minimum.
- Be an active Roleplayer, no less than 2 new Active RP threads per month.
- Though length is a requirement for the profile of a main character, it is a secondary criteria. Your profile will be judged primarily on Quality. If staff has determined it is not of high enough quality to warrant a Main Character, you will be denied. Once denied, you must wait 3 months OOC before you can apply for a Main Character again.
Main Characters receive the benefits of:
- Melee: Master
Hand-To-Hand: Master
Speed: Master
Spiritual Power: Master- Start with an additional 5,000 xp.
- Main Characters are not subject to certain restrictions placed in the Unacceptable Customs thread "Limitation of Power Types" section. This does not mean you are granted OP powers, it simply means that you may have techniques dealing with Time, Illusion, etc. within reason. Your techniques must still be approved by the administrator.
- No more than 3 Main Characters may be staff members at any given time, in the interest of fairness.
